The new school year marks new beginnings for learners. This school year, most schools are implementing a hybrid learning setup. Hybrid learning is an educational model that combines traditional face-to-face classes with virtual sessions. It’s a step towards embracing the new normal as more students and educators have become vaccinated.
Hybrid learning means students will have to go back to a physical school. While the notion of seeing one’s schoolmates and friends can be exciting for kids who’ve been facing computer screens for the past two years, one should be prepared accordingly. Here are must-have items hybrid learners should equip themselves with this school year:
- Backpack or roomy tote bag. Hybrid learners have their school supplies with them when in school or the virtual classroom. A spacious bag is practical to ensure they have everything they need in class. Kids can choose a bag that fits their style. What’s important is that they have enough room for their essentials.
- Writing materials. While some learners have grown accustomed to taking notes with their computers or other gadgets, there’s nothing like writing notes to retain information better. High school and college students must have pens ready, while pre-school and elementary students should have pencils. If the kids use pencils, they should also have sharpeners and erasers ready. The type of paper students would use depends on their level. It would also be best if they had notebooks as well. Computers may have allowed kids to jot notes virtually, but nothing beats the classic.
- School books or reading materials. Preschool, elementary and high school learners must bring their school books or the ones they need for their physical classes. Meanwhile, college learners should have printed copies of their reading materials for class. While e-books have become popular nowadays, having something tangible that you can bring and highlight without distractions can be helpful.
- Tablet or laptop. Technology has revolutionized the education sector tremendously, and students should bring their gadgets even if they’re going to a physical classroom. Learners can research or write notes using their respective devices. Most learners have invested in electronic devices amid their online learning experience, and bringing these gadgets can be helpful even in face-to-face classes.
- Extra face masks. Safety is key in the hybrid learning setup. Students didn’t have to wear face masks in virtual classrooms for the past two years. Now, it’s required for learners to wear face masks as much as possible. It would be best if learners were packed with extra masks in case of emergencies, like a sudden rain downpour or excessive sweating.
- Foldable umbrella. The weather can be unpredictable. Sometimes, it’s scorching hot in the morning and raining in the afternoon. Exposure to rain can get students sick. That’s why it’d be best to have a foldable umbrella in a sudden downpour. Having a raincoat would also be nice if they have enough space.
- Hand sanitizer or alcohol. Regular disinfecting is vital to avoid the transfer of germs. Different people explore school grounds, and kids must disinfect surfaces before touching them. Students need to have hand sanitizers or travel-sized alcohol bottles for their safety. This is especially the case in places with no sink and soap available.
- Snacks. The school cafeteria or canteen is usually full of students. Having your recess or lunch break in an open space would be ideal. You can avoid the crowded cafeteria by bringing your snacks to school. It would be perfect if students packed nutritious and well-balanced food. Health is wealth, after all, especially now.
- Refillable tumbler. More students have become environmentally conscious and discouraged the use of plastic bottles. A portable tumbler is an economical way to stay hydrated without using single-use plastic. Insulated tumblers have become popular nowadays. Thus, their drinks will be hot or cold all day.
These are only some of the essentials hybrid learners should have as they return to the physical classroom. Every learner should be prepared and observe safety protocols for everyone’s good. Moreover, students should be honest if they’re not feeling well or notice their classmates are sick. The new hybrid learning setup will succeed only if everyone works together. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
